Residential schools impact on family, is the third lesson in my loss of identity unit. This lesson has students completing a KWL chart about what they already know and questions that they have about residential schools. Once they have made their own KWL charts, we create one chart as a class that takes all the information from the students charts into one central source. The questions that came from the KWL are used to create the inquiry questions that students will be focusing on during their research. Once the KWL chart was completed, students were divided into the reading from “Separated Siblings”, and “Contact from Parents”. The students used a worksheet to use as a guide for the information that will help them make personal connections to the loss of identity.
